Neurotoxin Injections

Changing your appearance with cosmetic injectables like Botox® might sound like a big step, but many agree that it’s worth the boost in confidence. At Medical Laser Therapeutics in New Hartford, New York, Samuel Gooldy, MD, PC, can treat your fine facial lines with Botox injections without inhibiting your facial expressions. To find out if you’re a candidate for treatment with Botox, call Medical Laser Therapeutics or book an appointment online today.

What is Neurotoxin?

Botox is one of the most recognizable names in cosmetic medicine. Often mistaken for a dermal filler, the injectable drug isn’t quite the same. Instead of softening features associated with aging by adding volume, Botox works by stopping the involuntary muscle movements that lead to the formation of fine lines and wrinkles.

At Medical Laser Therapeutics, you can get Botox injections to treat a specific type of wrinkle called a dynamic wrinkle. Dynamic wrinkles are wrinkles that form and deepen because of your facial muscle movements. At first, they might look particularly defined when you make certain facial expressions. Over time, you can see them even when your face is at rest.

The most common dynamic wrinkles, all treatable with Botox, are crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead lines. In non-cosmetic settings, Botox can treat migraines, hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), eyelid spasms, and more.

How does Neurotoxin work?

Neurotoxin is able to soften your wrinkles and fine lines thanks to its active ingredient, a neurotoxin called botulinum toxin. The toxin paralyzes or weakens the muscles causing your wrinkles. Even if you can’t feel them, their constant flexing leads to the appearance of fine lines.

During your treatment at Medical Laser Therapeutics, the team member places a cold pack on your facial skin to numb the area in preparation for the injections. It takes about 10 minutes for your expert practitioner to inject small amounts of Botox into various muscles contributing to your wrinkles.

Once the procedure is complete, you can go straight home, finish running errands, or even return to work. You might notice some slight bruising or redness, but it resolves itself within two to three days.

How should I prepare for treatment with Neurotoxins??

During your consultation at Medical Laser Therapeutics, the team at Medical Laser Therapeutics can give you a detailed list of instructions for how to prepare for your Neurotoxin injections. Since the treatment is minimally invasive, you don’t need to prepare as much as you would for an invasive procedure or surgery. Your instructions may include:

  • Avoiding taking blood-thinning medications
  • Avoiding smoking
  • Arriving with clean skin
  • Rescheduling if you develop any skin irritation or rashes

Knowing exactly what to expect beforehand can help you better prepare for your appointment. Since you won’t need anesthesia, you can drive yourself to Medical Laser Therapeutics and back home again

Cool sculpting Elite

For those of you that have had children and can’t get rid of the baby pooch under your bellybutton. Even if you faithfully diet and exercise, areas of your body can hold onto fat, preventing you from looking the way you want. At Medical Laser Therapeutics in New Hartford, New York, Samuel Gooldy, MD, PC, and the team offer revolutionary CoolSculpting® Elite technology to freeze away fat in those trouble areas. Call the office or book online to find out how you can slim and sculpt your body with CoolSculpting Elite treatments.

What is CoolSculpting Elite?

CoolSculpting Elite is a revolutionary technology that freezes fat cells so they can no longer survive. The process of freezing fat cells, called cryolipolysis, is quite effective because fat cells are more sensitive to cooler temperatures than the surrounding skin and other tissues.

As a result, CoolSculpting Elite can lower the temperature enough to freeze and destroy fat cells without harming your skin. The destroyed fat cells are naturally cleared away by your body.

The procedure requires no anesthesia, incisions, or downtime. You lose the fat without invasive surgery or diet pills and supplements.

How does CoolSculpting Elite contour my body?

Body contouring refers to eliminating specific, localized areas of fat so you can improve your body shape. Not long ago, body contouring could only be achieved with invasive procedures such as liposuction. Thanks to the advanced technology found in CoolSculpting Elite, you can permanently eliminate stubborn fat without an incision.

With CoolSculpting Elite, body contouring is as simple as placing the applicator on top of your skin. Then the applicator lowers the temperature of the targeted area and freezes fat cells.

Noninvasive body contouring is quite effective, but it can’t remove large amounts of fat, so it isn’t a weight-loss technique. Contouring targets the areas of fat that you can’t get rid of despite maintaining a healthy body weight.

What areas can be treated with CoolSculpting Elite?

Some people have incredibly stubborn areas that just refuse to shrink, even with diligent diet and exercise. CoolSculpting Elite addresses these areas, including the:

  • Abdomen
  • Back (including bra fat)
  • Inner and outer thighs
  • Flanks (love handles)
  • The underside of the buttocks
  • Upper arms
  • Neck and chin

CoolSculpting Elite is also a great option for men who need to eliminate stubborn fat in all these areas and the chest. The procedure is safe and has minimal side effects.

When will I see CoolSculpting Elite results?

Though most patients see results shortly after their first treatment, it takes time for your body to clear away the fat cells. Many patients see fat reduction in six weeks, and most of the damaged fat cells are eliminated in the first two months. However, you’ll achieve optimal results over the course of six months, as the treated area gradually becomes smoother and better toned.

After you see the final results, you can choose to have another CoolSculpting Elite session, if desired. Your provider at Medical Laser Therapeutics will talk with you about your body contouring goals and the best way to achieve them.

How long do the results of CoolSculpting Elite last?

After you pass puberty, your number of fat cells is relatively constant. When you destroy any of them, they’re gone for good. As long as you maintain a healthy weight, you’ll enjoy the benefits achieved through CoolSculpting Elite for the long run.

Do CoolSculpting Elite treatments hurt?

During the first few minutes of the procedure, you’ll feel an intensely cold sensation. Your treated area starts to feel numb within 5-10 minutes, so you feel much more comfortable. During a treatment session, which lasts about an hour, you’re welcome to nap, watch a movie, or play on your phone.

When the procedure is done, you may feel intense tingling as the sensation returns. However, your provider massages the area to help restore normal sensation. You may develop temporary swelling, redness, or bruising in the treated areas, but you don’t have to change your activities following a session. No downtime is required.

Radiance – Soft Tissue Filler

As we age, our faces begin to show the effects of gravity, sun exposure and years of facial muscle movement, such as smiling, chewing and squinting. The underlying tissues that keep our skin looking youthful and plumped up begin to break down, often leaving laugh lines, smile lines, crows feet or facial creases over the areas where this muscle movement occurs.

Soft-tissue fillers, most commonly injectable collagen or fat, and recently FDA approved Restylane, can help fill in these lines and creases, temporarily restoring a smoother, more youthful-looking appearance. When injected beneath the skin, these fillers plump up creased and sunken areas of the face. They can also add fullness to the lips and cheeks. Injectable fillers may be used alone or in conjunction with a resurfacing procedure, such as a laser treatment.

Injectable fillers are primarily used to improve the appearance of the skin’s texture. They can help fill out deep facial wrinkles, creases and furrows, “sunken” cheeks, skin depressions and some types of scars. They can also be used to add a fuller, more sensuous look to the lips.

Enhanced Skin Rejuvenation

Both the pleasures and the stresses of life take their toll and cause our skin to look older. Sun exposure, the major culprit of skin damage, only compounds the signs of aging.

All of a sudden you notice a few fine lines here, some discoloration there, and even broken capillaries on the face! Various treatment centers will claim to correct these problems, but the truth is that effective treatment requires several options. Different problems often require different treatments. We have different light-based systems; each designed to successfully treat different problems. So, whether you have age spots on your face or hands, Rosacea, or simply fine lines that you want reduced, we can tailor a treatment to meet your needs.

As we age, our skin experiences various natural and environmental changes that are associated with the following:

  • Redness, including the symptoms of Rosacea, flushing, and broken blood vessels
  • Pigment discoloration, such as age or sun spots
  • Poor skin texture evidenced by enlarged pores, coarseness, and loss of smoothness and elasticity.
  • Sun damage characterized by fine lines and mottled coloration
  • Similar imperfections on non-facial areas like the neck, chest, or hands

From creams and peels to Laser Peels, there are many options to restore a more youthful appearance. The newest and most effective treatments should require only an office visit, do not interrupt your daily routine, and do not burn. In order to meet the needs of our patients, we insist that any treatments we perform do the following:

  • Help erase the signs of aging
  • Be virtually pain-free
  • Produce long-lasting results
  • Treat without burning or surgery
  • Restore the natural complexion of your face, neck, chest, or hands

These treatments often require only a few visits. For example, we use a special “no burn, no downtime” laser to remove age spots. This treatment takes only fifteen minutes, and you will see results after only one visit. Rather than us requiring you to be treated as many as five times, you can decide on the number of treatments and the endpoint you want to achieve.

If you are interested in a more youthful and healthy appearance, we can design a treatment specifically for you.

About the Procedure

We have treatments that can be performed in fifteen to thirty minutes. Most treatments take 15 to 20 minutes. Of course, different problems require different treatments, and perhaps more than one laser. Generally, you will not need any sedation or local anesthetic prior to treatments. You can expect to resume all of your daily activities after the treatment, except direct sun exposure without sunblock.

During your initial consultation, the staff will take a brief medical history in order to make sure the treatments are safe for you. Your specific problems and desired results will then be discussed. Finally, an individualized treatment plan will be formed. You can expect your first treatment to begin immediately, if you desire. Generally, a digital picture will be taken before that first treatment. You can use that image to chart your progress.

Treatments for age spots can be performed on any area. Most often, these pigment changes are corrected on the face, hands, neck, and arms. By simply removing these sun or age spots, you can expect to remove years from your appearance. You can expect significant changes in just one treatment. However, several treatments are generally the best way to achieve the result you will want. You can decide the number of treatments you want and stop treatments at any time.

Treatments for Rosacea and facial capillaries can also be done in only a few sessions. Unlike older treatments, we use systems that do not produce bruising or swelling. Blood vessels on the face and nose can easily be removed in only one fifteen-minute session. However, several treatments are generally the best way to achieve the result you will want. Similar to the treatments for age spots, you can decide the number of treatments you want and stop treatments at any time.

I see a number of ads for rejuvenation of the face and skin. What does rejuvenation generally refer to?

Rejuvenation literally means, “to make younger”. Most of these ads claim to reduce or eliminate age spots, Rosacea, broken capillaries, and fine lines.

What makes your treatments different?

First, you must realize that each person is different. Each has a unique set of problems and skin type. In order to treat you in the most effective manner, these unique problems must be matched to the proper laser or other treatment. Because we have the best equipment to treat these types of problems we use this advantage to formulate a treatment plan than will be the most effective for you.

How long will the results of the treatments last?

You can expect long-term results. However we do recommend follow up treatments according to your specific needs, as your skin will continue to age. It is important that you avoid the factors that will damage your skin, such as the sun. We recommend sun block on a daily basis and the use of proper skin care products.

What about skin care products?

Our physician-grade skin care products offer a great opportunity to enhance the effects of your treatments. Proper skin care will help reduce fine lines, and help create a more youthful appearance.

How much do the treatments cost?

Treatments are very affordable. The average cost is $300 per treatment. During your free consultation, our physician/staff will be able to estimate the cost and number of treatments.

Will the various treatments alter my daily activities?

NO! All of our treatments are designed to avoid any burning or downtime. You can expect to return to your normal activities following your treatment

Ultherapy

  • An Uplift, not a Facelift!

The proprietary Ultherapy® procedure is the only non-surgical, non-invasive treatment that uses ultrasound and the body’s own natural healing process to lift and tighten loose skin on the eyebrow, neck, and under the chin. The only FDA-cleared procedure to lift skin on these hard-to-treat areas, Ultherapy uses the safe, time-tested energy of ultrasound to stimulate the deep structural support layers of the skin—including those typically addressed in a surgical facelift—without disturbing the surface of the skin.

  • Natural, Noticeable Results

Now there’s a way to stand firm in the face of gravity—on your terms. With Ultherapy, there’s no downtime, no foreign substances, no radical change; just a healthy revving-up on the inside for a natural, noticeable effect on the outside. With Ultherapy, you can go about your day after a single, 60-90 minute in-office procedure. You may notice a short-term “boost” but the natural process of creating new, more elastic, collagen builds over time—much like the effect that exercise has on building muscle (but without the multiple workouts!).

  • The Beauty of Ultherapy

Results will unfold over the course of 2-3 months and some patients have reported continued improvement for up to 6 months, including lifting of the skin on the neck, under the chin and on the brow. While ultrasound does not duplicate the results of surgery, Ultherapy has proven to be an inviting alternative for those who are not yet ready for surgery.

Fractional Laser Resurfacing

This state of the art technology, also known as fractional photosynthesis is the newest method in skin rejuvenation. The process targets areas of the skin that are precisely spaced out at a microscopic level leaving some skin perfectly intact while other zones are heat treated, the effect is visually comparable to the pixels in a digital image. The tiny spots of the treated skin replace old, destroyed cells with new healthy ones. The untreated areas maintain the tissues stability for a quicker recovery.

Due to the very efficient water absorption the laser is able to make microscopic channels through the skin. This causes an immediate shrinkage of excess skin. The laser beams also reach deeper layers of the skin stimulating collagen and elastics to tighten the skin naturally.

Areas on the body that can be treated:

  • Scars
  • Stretch Marks (any)
  • Bags Under The Eyes
  • Neck Bands
  • Oral Jowls, Lip Lines
  • Crows Feet
  • Full Facial Rejuvenation

Laser Acne Treatments

Acne is generally successfully treated with a variety of topical and oral medications. Inflammatory acne often requires the chronic use of antibiotics by mouth. Laser treatment can usually lead to a lessening of the amount of required antibiotics. Laser treatment can improve not only the inflamed acne, but also leads to improvement in acne scars. If you are interested in a no medication approach the laser treatment might be right for you.

Why does acne occur?

Acne occurs for a variety of reasons including an inability of skin cells to shed properly, causing the pores to plug, forcing the oil and bacteria that would naturally escape to be trapped inside. As the oil and bacteria accumulates, the skin becomes inflamed and swells outward forming the familiar whiteheads, blackheads and pimples. Acne is seen in many age groups, but is most common in teens and frequently appears on the face, neck, shoulders, back, and chest.

What systems treat acne? The Aura and *Gemini.

The lasers are FDA cleared for facial acne, though they can be used anywhere acne is normally present.

How does the laser help clear acne?

Light pulses are delivered through the skin’s surface, targeting an organic compound generated by the Propionibacterium acnes (p. acne) bacteria called porphyrin. These porphyrins are photosensitive and when targeted by light, generate singlet oxygen, which kill the p. acne bacteria that cause inflammation.

How many treatments should I need?

Physicians who have conducted acne laser treatments frequently start with a four treatment course, two per week for two weeks. More treatments may be needed for those with more severe acne

How long do the effects last?

Clinical data suggests that most patients find their acne improves after two weeks of twice weekly treatments. While many patients continue to improve over the months following treatment, some patients experience a plateau in their improvement. Repeated treatments may be necessary to maintain results.

How effective is the laser?

In studies conducted at Wellman Labs in Massachusetts and at a private facility in California, 91% of patients saw their acne improve by an average of 66%. In the most recent clinical study patients saw their acne become 81% less severe.

What will happen in the procedures?

After discussing your medical history, including any drugs you are currently taking, with your medical practitioner, the treatment area will be cleaned and a thin layer of clear gel will be applied. Your practitioner will glide the laser handpiece over the treatment area in a brushing motion as the laser light is pulsed safely through the skin.

Is it painful?

Many patients describe the laser pulses as feeling like the snap of a rubber band against the skin, however treatments done over active lesions may be more uncomfortable. Your medical practitioner may recommend a topical anesthetic in order to make treatments more comfortable.

When should I see results?

Patients frequently see results within the first week following treatment.

Are there side effects?

Immediately following the procedure patients may experience mild to moderate redness and swelling that will fade in as little as a couple hours to as much as a few days.

Can I apply make up right afterwards?

Yes.

Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal has gained popularity as a permanent solution for unwanted hair. It involves matching your skin and hair type with the right medical laser, and it’s important to choose an experienced professional. Most people can achieve at least 80% hair reduction with multiple treatments. Common treatment areas for women include the lip, chin, bikini line, legs, underarms, and navel, while men often target the back, shoulders, and upper arms. The procedure can take a few minutes to up to 45 minutes, depending on the area treated. You may feel a slight tingling sensation, but it is generally well-tolerated. Afterward, you can resume your normal routine but should protect treated areas from the sun. Laser hair removal destroys hair at the follicle’s base, preventing regrowth. It works best on hair in the active growth phase, requiring multiple treatments for optimal results. The risks are minimal, with eye protection provided, and there is a small chance of pigment changes or blisters. During your consultation, you will receive more detailed information about lasers and any associated risks.

Is laser hair removal permanent?

we only use lasers that are approved for permanent hair reduction by the United States Federal Drug Administration. This means most patients will achieve long-term, stable reduction in the number of hairs re-growing in the treated areas. The amount of permanent reduction increases with the number of treatments. Occasionally, you may have a few hairs regrow over a period of time.

What does it feel like?

Most patients feel a mild sting for a fraction of a second., we use a variety of skin cooling devices and, occasionally a topical anesthetic cream, to reduce or eliminate any discomfort.

How long do the treatments take?

We can treat some areas in only a few minutes. Others, such as the back or legs, require 20-40 minutes. For example, the underarms or bikini lines take only fifteen minutes.

How many treatments are necessary?

This is very important to understand. Hair goes through three stages of development. Only in the active stage will the laser affect hair removal. At any given time, only some of your hairs are in the active stage. For this reason, it is necessary to treat an area at least three times to see the best and longest lasting results. Most areas need to be treated 3-8 times.

Can you treat darker skin colors?

We have the newest lasers that have been specifically designed to treat all skin colors. These lasers were developed at Harvard University School of Medicine specifically for the treatment of people of color. They are safe, affordable, and can achieve the same permanent hair reduction as seen in lighter skin types.

Is laser hair removal safe?

Lasers have been in existence for more than thirty-five years and are used by a wide range of medical specialists. Since only light is used to remove hair, it is totally noninvasive. Your eyes will be shielded during the treatment. While there is a slight chance of skin irritation and pigment changes, these are rare due to the type of lasers used and the training of our staff.

What is the cost?

The cost of laser hair removal varies based on time and area treated. We can offer very competitive and affordable laser treatments because we only use fast, state-of-the art lasers. Please call us for specific costs

  • Laser Peels

The desire to look your best is prevalent among most men and women and we have the perfect solution in your desire to both look and feel better. We are proud to introduce our Lunchtime and Weekend Laser Peel utilizing the VENUS™ ERBIUM:YAG Laser from LASERSCOPE™.

The Laser Peel is the latest advance for the treatment of aging and sun-damaged skin. The Erbium laser utilized in this revolutionary procedure provides a safer, more accurate, and less painful method of restoring smooth, softer, and more youthful appearing skin, without the downtime associated with previous Laser Peel lasers. The procedure is performed in our office and takes no longer than 30 minutes.

The Laser Peel is specifically designed to remove superficial and moderately deep lines and wrinkles on the face. It is also beneficial in treating sebaceous hyperplasia and acne scars.

How does the laser work?

The laser energy is absorbed by water and because the skin contains 70% water, the laser beam actually vaporizes the top layer of skin or the epidermis, removing skin inconsistencies, such as discoloration, shallow lines, and scarring. When new epidermis regenerates, the effect is a smoother and tighter surface.

What kind of conditions can be treated with a Laser Peel?

Many facial conditions such as fine wrinkling around the eyes, forehead, nose, and mouth can be smoothed with this simple process. Deep laugh and frown lines can be reduced, and even the lingering effects of chicken pox, acne scars, and sebaceous hyperplasia can be successfully treated.

What results can you expect?

Your skin will be exfoliated layer by layer over a six treatment process, each, one month apart. This enables new skin growth, which is younger and fresher in appearance. With proper skin care and products, your new appearance can be realized with no downtime between treatments.

Does the treatment hurt?

Unlike previous Laser Peel techniques, there is minimal discomfort associated with the procedure. If you are uncomfortable, an anesthetic cream can be applied prior to the treatment. Most patients feel a “rubber band snapping” sensation and have little discomfort.

What should I expect after a Laser Peel?

Immediately after the procedure, your skin will pinken and swell slightly. Within 24 hours you can return to your normal skin routine. Makeup may be applied within 24 hours.

  • Laser Vein Therapy

Over 50 million Americans are bothered by the appearance of veins on their thighs, calves, and ankles. These veins can be small capillaries known as spider veins, larger veins called reticular veins, or varicose veins. Factors such as pregnancy, weight gain, prolonged standing, and genetics contribute to their development. Spider veins not only affect appearance but can also cause discomfort in the legs, including aching, swelling, burning, and night cramps. Reticular veins lie deeper beneath the skin’s surface and often serve as the source of spider veins, requiring their removal for long-term results. Varicose veins, which are larger and bulge with a rope-like texture, can cause pain and indicate more serious vein disorders that are best treated by vascular surgeons.

Laser treatment, specifically utilizing the Gemini laser, is considered the most effective and relatively pain-free technique for addressing spider and reticular veins. It offers versatility in treating all skin types, including tanned skin. Typical treatments last around 15 minutes and can be tailored to meet individual needs, with free consultations provided. During laser vein therapy, the concentrated beam of light emitted by the laser is preferentially absorbed by the hemoglobin in the vein, converting to heat and causing the vein walls to collapse. This process is similar to how sunlight absorbed by objects inside a car generates heat. The heated vein is then reabsorbed by the body over a period of three to four weeks, leading to its disappearance.

Expertise and knowledge are crucial for successful laser vein therapy. Our trained staff utilizes the appropriate laser and settings for each vein size. Treatment may cause a slight tingling sensation and temporary reddish appearance of the skin. Risks are minimal, including a small chance of pigment changes, and precautions like eye protection are taken. Consultations provide detailed information and our state-of-the-art cooling systems ensure low-risk and relatively pain-free treatments.

Are these vein treatments permanent?

The removal of spider and reticular leg veins is not an exact science. Most patients achieve a significant reduction in the appearance of their veins and are very satisfied with the treatments. Of course, aging begins the moment the treatment ends. In addition, other factors such as standing and genetics continue. We recommend a single yearly treatment to “clean up” any new veins that appear

Are the treatments painful?

Most patients describe a tingling sensation during the brief time the laser is actually firing. However, because we offer cooling systems and topical anesthetic cream, our patients are quite comfortable during their treatments

Are the treatments safe?

As in laser hair removal, there are a few uncommon risks associated with both laser and injection vein therapy. These include pigment changes and blistering. However, because our physicians and aestheticians are specially trained in the use of the lasers, the occurrence of these events is rare. Additionally, your eyes will be shielded during all treatments.

How long do the treatments take and how many treatments will I need?

Each treatment session generally lasts fifteen minutes. We can treat a significant number of veins during that session. Typically, you can expect to need two to three sessions to achieve the appearance you desire. Of course, you can stop treatments at any time or continue with additional treatments should you desire.

How much do the treatments cost?

Our fees are for each treatment session and are very competitive. During your initial consultation, which is always free at Samuel K.Gooldy, MD.PC, we will estimate the number of treatment sessions you will need in order to give you an idea of cost.
